Has Relaxation Music become to commercial?
The desire to listen to Relaxation Music has never been so widespread, a response to the pace of modern society?
Demand has become ever increasing.
Most Holistic Natural Therapy Clinics - Spas, Day Spas, Health Retreats and Resorts and many other professional and semi-professional using Relaxation Music. Top that up with the audience in those places and you have another reason while Relaxation Music has spread into all levels of society.
As a musician who writes instrumental relaxation music I of course, have listened and studied a great many other people’s work within this genre.
I and many others like me, are of the opinion that the world seems to have suffered a deluge of relaxation music that is now tagged with being "Whale Music". This, I find while a bit harsh, rings true.
Many friends have taunted me about this and yet to some extent the industry has changed and is now seen exactly as just that.
People who do not listen to this music on a regular basis or even listen at all, will never attempt to listen if the interest is not there because, massed produced "Relaxation Music" is seen as bland and un-cool.
To some extent this lies on the shoulder of the musician; to produce music that is different and engages the listener and takes him or her on a journey away from their daily routine.
After all "Relaxation Music" is about this very subject, of taking a moment away from the everyday and escaping into your own world.
I, as a musician, sit back and listen to the piece of music I have created many, many times over and ask myself "Is it doing what I intended it to do or be?"
Many questions can follow on and should make the music better and more interesting as well. This of course, will differ with each individual piece of music and the talented approach of the musician recording it.
But, in essence this process should make the music much more interesting and engage the listener so much better, and hopefully converting others to take the plunge as well into the World Of Relaxation Music.
This I hope will weed out the "conveyer belt of mass produced music" and make the genre become a little more specialised and, in doing so, will also give the professional people who use it a much better response as well.
